ORMOC CITY, Leyte, July 14 -- The Leyte Electric
Cooperative (Leyeco) V appealed to its consumers to conserve power following
its temporary distribution of energy on Thursday evening.
The electric coop’s information and training
officer Roy Magdadaro called for the consumers' cooperation to minimize the use
of appliances with high wattage requirements like air conditioners, flat irons,
rice cooker, among others.
This is to avoid consuming more than the supply
being received which may eventually result to power interruption.
The coop’s 9 of 11 towns and the city of Ormoc were
initially energized around 8:20 p.m. Thursday, exactly a week after the 6.5
earthquake shook Leyte and damaged infrastructures.
Aside from Ormoc City, power was also restored in
the municipalities of Albuera, Kananga, Matag-ob, Palompon, San Isidro, Leyte,
Calubi-an, Villaba and Tabango.
Merida and Isabel towns remained to suffer from
power outage since the sub-station supplying electricity to these areas is
still under repair.
However, the sub-station’s 5 MVA (Mega Volts
Ampere), according to Magdadaro, will be replaced with 10 MVA to maximize the
power supplied by NGCP (National Grid Corporation of the Philippines) from
Cebu.(Elvie Roa/PNA)
