CALBAYOG
CITY, Samar, May 13 (PNA) -– People in this city gave incumbent Mayor Ronaldo
Aquino fresh mandate to govern the city’s 157 villages after he was proclaimed
winner Thursday night.
Aquino of
the Liberal Party, garnered 50,800 votes against his tight rival, Angel Tan of
Nacionalista Party who obtained 38,273 votes.
Aquino said
that his administration will implement programs, focusing on eco-tourism, as
this will encourage more tourists to visit the city and enhance the sector that
provides livelihood to locals.
Aquino was
elated that in the past years under his leadership, investments have been
coming into the city, creating jobs to locals.
“With the
investments, people don’t have to leave the city and their family to work
outside Calbayog,” Aquino said.
The city
mayor believes that they are on the right track with development plans since he
has the support of the majority of the members of the city council.
The city
board of canvassers also proclaimed Aquino’s tandem, incumbent Vice Mayor Diego
Rivera as winner.
Rivera, who
was with the Nacionalista Party during the 2013 elections, decided to join and
support Aquino when he saw the development happened in the city during the
present administration.
