PALO, Leyte, May 22 -- An education official in
Leyte has assured the public and teacher applicants that their hiring process
remained as one of their best practices.
As another school year will open on June 5, Jose
Mariano Barril Jr., personnel officer in Department of Education-Leyte
division, said that despite the constant challenge in hiring, their office
maintained to only hire those who qualify from their registry of applicants in
a transparent way.
Barril said they received 4,555 teacher applicants
this year.
“Each and every applicant, they are informed of
their score, the points they got and their documents to ensure transparency and
it is on record,” Barril said on Monday.
To ensure transparency and democratic process in
the hiring, they have also maximized the use of social media, Barril said.
“We have maintained a Facebook page, and anyone can
view (the points of teacher applicants),” he said.
Barril took pride with how the division is doing
its confirmation of points “for the past five years or so.”
“After the evaluation of documents, we just don’t
release a ranking. Because there is no more ranking nowadays, it is now called
registry of qualified applicants. If one can reach 70 points, you now belong to
the registry of qualified applicants,” he said.
While for secondary and elementary applicants, the
division is following the localization policy, Barril said.
He added that Leyte division superintendent Ronelo
Al Firmo himself led their office in conducting an orientation to teacher
applicants before the formal hiring process starts.
According to him, the confirmation of points in the
presence of all concerned applicants allow them to recheck their scores, adding
that this paves way for other applicants to disprove if someone is making false
claims in his or her applications.
“In terms of deployment, we call them (applicants)
here. If there may be an error, we make correction… we flash them on screen,”
Barril said, noting also that their hiring process strictly follows the
standards set by DepEd Orders 7 and 22, respectively.
Barril disclosed that the division had received 126
new items to be filled up next week while issuing a warning that no teaching
item in Leyte was for sale.
As of its current plantilla, Barril said that the
division has 15,355 teachers covering 40 towns in Leyte.
The division has 1,107 elementary schools, 145
secondary schools and 116 senior high schools.
