PALO, Leyte, April 10 (PNA) - The Philippine
National Police (PNP) regional office here directed all police stations to
secure airports, seaports and bus terminals to ensure the safety of the public
during the observance of the Holy Week.
Chief Supt. Elmer Beltejar, PNP regional director,
ordered policemen to brace for the Holy Week following the peaceful holding of
the international conference of the United Cities of Local Governments-Asia
Pacific in Catbalogan City last week.
On Monday, the police's highway patrol unit
deployed road safety marshals to ensure the safety of motorists.
“Yes, the PNP is still on red alert. It was not
lifted since the bombing in Davao City on September 2, 2016,” Chief Insp. Ma.
Bella D. Rentuaya, PNP regional spokesperson, said on Monday.
The PNP continues to implement checkpoints, conduct
law enforcement functions, encourage the participation of force multipliers and
volunteers to augment the local police in their respective areas of
responsibility.
There are police assistance desks in the ports and
bus terminals and in places where people converged like churches and other
areas holding Lenten observance.(PNA)
