Leyte gov sees positive returns on tourism showcase

TACLOBAN CITY, Feb. 3 (PNA) – Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico Petilla pushes for more tourism showcase for Leyte province to promote local tourism and increase trade with other regions.

This after a positive outcome of the Leyte showcase at the Philippine Tourism Showroom of the Department of Tourism (DOT) in January.

Petilla said showcasing the province in tourism, trade and investments in other areas of the country, increases the province’s potentials along these areas.

The province participated at the Philippine Tourism Showroom as part of the Eastern Visayas Showcase, together with the provinces of Biliran and Southern Leyte and the cities of Tacloban, Ormoc, Baybay and Maasin.

Products by the Leyte Treats of Ethnic Foods and Crafts Association, Taps Handmade Products and the Municipality of Palo were showcased such as moron, binagol, roscas, tuba and many other. All products are unique to the province.

Leyte’s tourist destinations were also promoted and local tour packages were offered to the guests and visitors at the showroom.

The province also featured its local singing talents, who performed during the opening.

“I am very much proud of what Leyte can offer in terms of tourism, trade and investments. We have so much to offer and showcases such as this always provide us with great opportunity to promote what we have and encourage patronage from in and outside the region,” Petilla said.

As part of the government’s inclusive growth agenda, the showroom was opened to the public in September 2016, to promote participating micro small and medium enterprises and hope to empower communities in the countryside.

The showroom showcases as well various destinations of the regions through video showing as well as display of regional brochures, tour packages and local products.

“The project brings select products and services to the general public at the most affordable prices. It is also aimed at promoting domestic tourism with a region to be feature every two weeks,” said DOT Regional Director Karina Rosa Tiopes.(PNA)
