TACLOBAN CITY Dec. 7
(PNA) -- The Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) vowed to sustain its
advocacy for Green Schools even beyond Environmental Awareness Month
celebration.
Maribel Munsayac, chief of EMB’s finance and administrative
division, emphasized the value of raising environmental awareness among
school children and youth, engaging them in climate change adaptation
activities.
“We want to raise awareness on the different environmental issues
that has been confronting our country to young Filipinos,” Munsayac
said.
The Green Schools campaign, launched two years ago, have been
pushing for promotion of environmental protection, institutionalization
of solid waste management programs and recycling.
This is on top of tree planting program, campus gardening, and other greening initiatives.
In November, the Department of Environment and Natural
Resources-EMB led three environmental events -- Environmental Awareness
Month, Clean Air month, and National Climate Change Consciousness Week.
All activities were anchored on the theme: “Green
schools…building climate resilient and sustainable communities”. The
activities aim to raise awareness among the youth and promote ways of
reducing their negative impact on the environment. (PNA)
