Eastern Visayas cops issue holiday reminders

TACLOBAN CITY, Dec. 13 -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) regional office here reminded its men to beef up security measures for the holiday season in Eastern Visayas.

PNP regional spokesperson Chief Insp. Ma. Bella Rentuaya said the police regional office has asked all provincial police offices, city police offices, town police stations and even village watchmen to act and tighten the security measure this Yuletide season.

According Rentuaya, the police regional chief has been reminding key officials during their weekly staff conferences to tighten security measures in “places of convergence” such as malls, terminals, airports, piers this holiday rush.

The police, according to Rentuaya, has been doing its best to achieve minimal if not zero case of criminality, even petty offences.

“Our office is constant in reminding the public to be cautious. We also requested the public to refrain from wearing expensive jewelry in public places, as well as to bring enough money for shopping and groceries and refrain from bringing large sum of money,” Rentuaya said.

The official also suggested the use of sling bags instead of backpack for safety.

The police also reminded the people not to leave their houses without someone left when attending pre-Christmas masses at early dawn.

With regards to the use of firecrackers, the PNP will issue a list of firecrackers that are not allowed to be used during the holiday revelries as well as the list of the authorized dealers of firecrackers authorized by law.

Rentuaya also reminded the public that they also hold an important role in their own safety. “They have to cooperate, participate in the authorities move for a safer community," he said. (PNA)
