Nearly 5,000 cops, village watchmen deployed to secure ‘Undas’ in Region 8

PALO, Leyte, Nov. 1 (PNA) -– A total of 3,197 policemen and 1,780 barangay (village) peacekeeping action team (BPAT) members are currently deployed to ensure security in Eastern Visayas during the All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day commemoration.

Among the places to be secured are cemeteries, bus terminals, seaports, airports, tourist destination, malls, vital installations and major thoroughfares.

The deployed personnel are supported by force multipliers like BPATs and other non-government organizations. These force multipliers shall be utilized in checkpoints and other similar security measures.

The police regional office here currently monitors the security situation in the region through its regional tactical operation center situated at the regional police headquarters, observing maximum utilization of mobile phones.

The teams also use very high frequency and high frequency radios and internet as command and control tools.

In coordination with other government agencies, policemen also joined public assistance desks of DPWH to provide immediate response to travelers who encounter problems on the road and police visibility to prevent or discourage would-be criminals from doing their nefarious intentions.

Moreover, the police regional office encourages the general public to support their campaign against criminality and provide relevant information immediately to nearest police stations or through social media. (PNA)
