Church assures prayers for ‘Yolanda’ casualties this ‘Undas’

PALO, Leyte, Nov. 1 (PNA) –- The Roman Catholic Church Archdiocese of Palo assured prayer for the souls of those who perished during the onslaught of super typhoon Yolanda as the world commemorates the All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day.

Archbishop John F. Du of the Archdiocese of Palo said several masses are scheduled on Wednesday for super typhoon Yolanda victims in Leyte.

“One thing very sure, there are masses for the victims, for the dead, for those who died, we will pray for them,” Du said.

Du will personally officiate mass in Tanuan, Leyte since in the past years, he was in Tacloban City and Palo, Leyte to honor the departed.

There are also scheduled masses and activities in Tacloban City and nearby Palo town.

Du challenged Yolanda survivors to move forward, look ahead, and continue living normal lives three years after the catastrophe.

In late 2013, super typhoon Yolanda struck central Philippines and caused massive destruction in Tacloban and nearby towns.

The typhoon was the deadliest in the Philippines on record, killing at least 7,000 people in hard-hit areas. It is also the strongest storm recorded at landfall.

Several activities are now lined up for the commemoration of the third year of Yolanda one of which is the Haiyan Candlelight Memorial in Tacloban - a 24-kilometer memorial centerpiece activity where communities gather together to honor the victims of the super typhoon. (PNA)
