TACLOBAN
CITY, Nov. 16 (PNA) -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Leyte
provincial office has again reminded the public to check labels of Christmas
lights and look for genuine Import Commodity Clearance (ICC) seal to avoid fire
hazards.
According to
DTI, it is unsafe to use counterfeit lights as well as those manufactured three
years ago as it may cause fire and electrical malfunctions.
“We cannot
assure the quality of an imported product and the materials used by the
manufacturers might be substandard if it’s not checked by the Bureau of
Philippine Standard (BPS),” said Candelaria Duavis, DTI Leyte product standard
officer.
Starting
October, the trade department has revived inspection activities for Christmas
lights. They found out that all six major shops in this city have been selling
Christmas lights with genuine ICC stickers.
“We are glad
that these big establishments are following our order on selling products like
these and we have not recorded any violations so far,” Duavis added.
The
department also assured that there will be more inspections to be conducted
this November in commercial centers like Ormoc City and Baybay City.
“We can’t
compromise safety, we are glad that there was still no verified incidents
related to fake Christmas lights here in our province,” Duavis added.
The DTI team
will conduct another round of inspection weeks before Christmas Day in this
city, the regional capital. (PNA)
