LILOAN,
Southern Leyte, Sept. 22 (PNA) -- Authorities seized PHP10 million worth of
Falcata logs, equipments, conveyances and accessories allegedly used in illegal
logging activities in an operation in this town.
The
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Philippine Army’s 53rd
Engineering Battalion, Philippine National Police, Philippine Coastguard, and
Philippines Navy seized the logs and other items at Liloan Port on Tuesday.
DENR
Forester Enforcement Division chief Allen Cebuano said the shipment of
illegally cut Falcata logs lacks pertinent documents such as certificate of
origin of logs and permit to harvest.
The four
10-wheeler trucks loaded with undocumented logs are being transported from San
Jose and Mondragon in Northern Samar to Butuan City. This soft wood specie has
high demands for plywood and paper production.
“It is our
mandate to protect our environment. We will not tolerate any act that would
cause hazard to our environment,” Cebuano said.
The trader
also failed to pay the administrative fees at the DENR office.
The DENR
impounded the confiscated items and placed in the custody of the Naval Station
Dioscoro Papa in Tacloban City for proper disposition.
The shipper
is now charged for violation section 77 by Republic Act 7161 or the Revised
Forestry Code of the Philippines. (PNA)
