MAASIN CITY,
Southern Leyte, Sept. 23 (PNA) – The Department of Public Works and Highways
(DPWH) Eastern Visayas regional office has asked the Southern Leyte District
Engineering Office (SLDEO) to complete region-implemented projects, citing the
latter’s performance.
In a recent
meeting with key officials in the region, DPWH Regional Director Edgar Tabacon
announced that SLDEO is one of the field offices that would carry out projects
with costs beyond the limits of delegated authority.
“Since we
are one of the six good performing districts in the region, we will supervise
some big projects for 2016 and even 2017 to ensure timely completions,” said
District Engineer Ma. Margarita C. Junia.
The existing
rules limit the authority of a district engineering office to approve program
of works and budget for the contract of projects with cost not exceeding PHP50
million. This is four times less than the PHP200 million limit for the regional
office.
For 2016,
these region-implemented projects in Southern Leyte are the PHP95.99 million
road leading to Cambaro Cave in Macrohon town; PHP7.05 million concrete
reblocking of Daang Maharlika;
PHP46.72 million rehabilitation of Liloan
Bridge; and PHP50.21 million reconstruction of national roads with slips, slope
collapse, and landslide along Daang Maharlika.
Being a top
performer, SLDEO posted 88 percent accomplishment rate for 2016 projects as of
mid September. The district office got PHP1 billion allocation for
infrastructure this year based on National Expenditure Program.
