Tacloban gov’t bares 11 priorities

TACLOBAN CITY, July 6 (PNA) – The city government here bared its 11-point agenda to attain post-Yolanda recovery and economic progress in the next three years.

Actress-turned-politician Mayor Cristina Gonzales-Romualdez said the 11-point agenda was geared towards providing livelihood and building safer and better city after the 2013 super typhoon.

First on the list is the relocation of about thousands families from danger zones to sites established in the northern part of the city.

“In the next three years, we need to relocate from high risk areas to safe zones, but we have to make sure that they are provided with water and power facilities” said Romualdez, the second lady chief executive after Obdulla Cinco who served the city from 1978 to 1986.

The local government aims to transfer about 40 percent of the city’s population to northern relocation dubbed as “a new city within a city” that will transform coastal areas of Tacloban.

Other priorities are productive livelihood for the marginalized sector to reduce poverty; medical and nutrition program for infants, children and nursing mothers; properly equipped Tacloban City 

Hospital; establishment of well-equipped health centers in every village; promote sustainable livelihood activities and small and medium enterprises development.

The lady mayor will also look into calibrating the K to 12 basic education program to fit local culture and local employment; engaging youth in non-traditional sports and cultural activities; encouraging investments for development of tourism sites and all products; building of disaster-resilient infrastructure; and unified approach to disaster preparedness

“We will develop this city in a sustainable and inclusive manner working hand in hand with private sector, non-government organizations and national government agencies,” Romualdez said.

The former actress is the wife of former Mayor Alfred Romualdez who led the city for nine years until June 30. The new mayor was a city councilor for three terms. (PNA)
