ORMOC CITY, Leyte, July 14 (PNA) -- The Department of Public Works and
Highways 4th Leyte engineering district (DPWH 4th LED) reached another
milestone when it received the ISO 9001:2008 Certification of Quality
Management System.
This was bared in a press conference on Thursday by District Engineer
Lino Francisco Gonzales, who recently received the certification.
The conferment makes them the first district engineering office in Works
and Highways in Eastern Visayas to be certified by the International Standard
Organization (ISO). This means that 4th LED is now fully compliant with
internationally-accepted practices and that the office is rendering quality and
excellent public service.
The ISO certification is an international recognition for the strict
implementation of a management system that operates effectively in achieving
its organizational performance goals such as commitment to quality and client
satisfaction.
Its requirements are underpinned by eight management principles namely:
a customer focused organization, leadership, the involvement of people,
ensuring a process approach, a systematic approach to management, a factual
approach to decision making, mutually beneficial supplier relations; and
continuous improvement.
In pursuit of their goal to be ISO certified, Gonzales explained they
had to improve their work procedures and practices beginning with the
implementation of good housekeeping habits. After 5 p.m., all desks are cleared
of clutter and documents while chairs are neatly arranged.
They also implemented an improved process in the flow of documents for
easier tracking, thereby providing procedural connectivity to all sections.
Documents are vertically filed on shelves and drawers, and labeled properly.
Most of all, the core values of public service – professionalism, teamwork and
excellence - are upheld. (PNA)
