ORMOC CITY,
Leyte, June 16 (PNA) -- To enhance public safety through the delivery of law
enforcement services, the local government unit (LGU) has embarked on a massive
installation of closed circuit television (CCTV) all over the city.
The move is
in compliance with RA 10121, which encourages the installation of CCTV cameras
for crime prevention.
To recall,
the city had the most advanced CCTV system in the region, but this was
destroyed by super typhoon Yolanda in 2013. To regain this distinction, the LGU
has allotted PHP13.5 million to purchase 38 CCTV monitoring cameras in
strategic locations of the city.
Phase I
involves the installation of cameras in 20 locations and 16 more locations for
phase II. The system will cover the entire city proper up to the rotunda in
Lilia Ave., Cogon in the north and Can-adieng in the south. The system will
primarily serve as a crime deterrent and help manage traffic congestion.
