TACLOBAN
CITY, June 20 (PNA) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)
and the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Eastern Visayas launched the rapid
damage assessment and pre-disaster risk assessment training for local
government units in Leyte province.
Joining the
ongoing training are 43 municipal social welfare development officers and local
disaster risk reduction management officers from in Leyte province.
DSWD
Regional Director Restituto Macuto emphasized the importance of coordination,
cooperation, and proper communication for an effective disaster response.
Composition
of the Response Cluster chaired by the National Disaster Risk Reduction
Management Council (NDRRMC), with DSWD as Vice-Chair and DepEd, DOH, OCD, DILG
as members.
Macuto
reiterated the need to teach family on disaster preparedness and talk about it
even on their dining tables.
“Parents may
start teaching their children on proper way of garbage disposal since solid
waste clogs our drainage system, especially in urban areas,” he said.
He urges the
participants of the training to immediately share the knowledge they acquired
in their training to the people in their locality.
OCD
Assistant Regional Director Rey Gozon conveyed his appreciation to local
government units for sending participants in the training.
