Irresponsible FB post about Samar tourism bothers official

TACLOBAN CITY, March 5 (PNA) – The Department of Tourism (DOT) has called on social media users to be more responsible in posting tourism-related information and photos online.

The call of DOT Regional Director Karina Rosa Tiopes came after a Facebook page called “I Love Samar” posted a photo of a resort, which they captioned as a resort in Calbiga, Samar, but was later found to be the Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora.

Four Seasons is a luxurious resort in French Polynesia, a group of island located in the south of Pacific Ocean. The photo was described as Dacut Beach Resort in Calbiga town.

The post immediately captured the attention of netizens with more than 46,000 likes and more than 24,000 shares. I Love Samar Facebook page has more than 60,000 followers.

Some comments had called for the attention of the administrator to verify and delete the picture as it misguided and misled people.

“There is nothing wrong with promoting Samar. I appreciate the administrator of the page for doing that. But they must be responsible,” said Tiopes.

Tiopes said that she already asked the administrator of the page to delete the picture but until now, it was still posted on Facebook.

“It is irresponsible to showcase destination that do not belong to Eastern Visayas region. I lauded you for promoting Eastern Visayas but we cannot do that by telling lies. We should promote the region in a good way,” she added.

Calbiga town is an hour drive from this city. This farming town is better known to tourist as home to caves and waterfalls and not beaches.

The most famous is the Langun-Gobingob Caves in Panayuran village. It is the largest cave system in the Philippines, reputed to be the second largest in Asia and the world's third largest karst formation. It’s length seven kilometers and has an area of 900 square kilometers.

Lulugayan Falls and Rapids in Literon village consists of hundreds of waterfalls cascade down the 14-kilometer rapids from the source at Lake Kalidongan to the Calbiga River.

The most majestic and panoramic view of the Falls is in the portion of Literon Correche village, approximately 50 meters wide. The Falls has been dubbed by tourists as a mini Niagara. (PNA)
