CARIGARA,
Leyte, Feb. 11 (PNA) –- This town targets PHP18 million local revenue this
2016, which is a "reachable" goal, according to a top local
government official.
Mayor
Eduardo C. Ong said that with the steadily increasing income every year, the
PHP18 million goal is possible for their local revenue. It was learned that the
local revenue has been steadily increasing 15 to 20 percent every year.
Local income
primarily comes from businesses and other commercial investments established in
the town during the past years.
Ong said
that their local market and business area continue to grow with the entry of
more establishments and franchises. Newly opened businesses include a hotel,
cafes, bakeshop, ‘do-it-yourself’ hardware, home furniture shop, gasoline
station, bank, pizza house and a number of other establishments.
The local
government unit itself opened during the latter part of 2015 a new wet market
which provides a more spacious area for meat and fish vendors.
Meanwhile,
now in the pipeline is the opening of more gasoline stations, nationwide
franchised drug store, a hyper mall and another bank.
Ong said
that all these resources can buoy up their local revenue target this year.
“Rather than
post a target that is way above our capacity, I would rather set a ‘workable’
revenue target that we can actually achieve or even surpass,” Ong added.
He likewise
vowed to continue all the programs he started since July 2013 for he believed
that the town has been on track with all the development.
Carigara is
a second class town in Leyte’s second district. It has always been commercially
active as it served as a commercial center for nearby towns such as Capoocan,
Barugo, Tunga and Jaro. (PNA)
