TACLOBAN CITY, Dec. 3 (PNA) -– The
state-owned Procurement Service (PS) depots in Eastern Visayas have generated
PHP85.79 million sales from January to October this year, surpassing sales for
the entire 2014.
Department of Budget Management
(DBM) Regional Director Imelda Laceras, also PS depot supervisor, said their
office is optimistic to surpass the PHP98.5 million target sales for the year
with continuing patronization of government agencies.
Of the PHP85.79 million sales,
PHP39.34 million was earned Tacloban depot, PHP8.63 million by Borongan depot
in Eastern Samar, PHP7.8 million by Naval depot in Biliran, PHP11.04 million by
Calbayog depot in Samar, PHP7.25 million by Maasin depot in Southern Leyte,
PHP11.71 million by Catarman depot in Northern Samar.
“We expect higher sales towards the
end of the year, especially that we have opened our depot to purchases of
individual government employees,” Laceras said.
PS, which has outlets in all of
the six provinces, sells commonly used office supplies and materials like bond
paper, clips, ink, pens, as well as cleaning and sanitary supplies such as
detergent, alcohol, and soap. Also available are electric fan, bulb, external
disk, monobloc table, waste basket, etc.
Through the depot, the government
saves on the conduct of bidding procedures since it is now centralized at the
DBM and it also cuts bureaucratic red tape because purchases are done directly
and faster.
The PS depot has been mandated
under Republic Act 9184, also known as "An Act Providing for the
Modernization, Standardization and Regulation of the Procurement Activities of
the Government and for other purposes."
The law was approved in 2003 but
due to funding constraints, the PS depot was officially set-up in August 2005.
