CITY, Oct. 11 -- The
Leyte provincial government has extended financial assistance to the July 6,
2017 earthquake victims in Kananga town.
Leyte
Governor Leopoldo Dominico Petilla, in a statement issued Wednesday, said there
were 380 families from five villages that benefitted the assistance.
Each
family received PHP5,000 assistance during the distribution in Kananga town on
Tuesday.
Of the
380 recipients, 112 are from Rizal village, 32 from Tongonan village, 50 from
Masarayao village, 162 from Hiloctogan village, and 24 from Lim-ao village.
“The
beneficiaries are living in areas severely affected by the earthquake based on
the result of the assessment of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau,” Petilla
said.
Four were
reported to have died and more injured during 6.5-magnitude earthquake.
It also
caused widespread power interruptions in the whole of Eastern Visayas and
nearby Bohol island province.
Hundreds
of families from the town of Kananga and its adjacent city or Ormoc were
ordered to evacuate and resettled in another place due to the earth cracks and
