CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar, Dec. 6 -- Christmas season has officially begun in Samar province with the opening of the month-long activities at the capitol grounds on Wednesday night.
The event, dubbed “Light A Tree: Christmas Around the World”, will be the third seasonal offering of the province. It is a showcase of 20 replicas of iconic attractions around the world such as the Taj Mahal in India, Eiffel Tower in France, the Hobitton in New Zealand, Petronas Tower in Malaysia, Burj Khalifa in Dubai, Japanese Pagoda, Colosseum in Rome, and San Juanico Bridge in Eastern Visayas.
The replicas are displayed next to the main attraction, a 30-foot Christmas tree located in the park facing the Capitol.
“To show the world that Samar is indeed the place to be this Christmas, we lit up the Capitol building with a 3D projection mapping courtesy of EPSON and BBCS Data Systems,” Governor Sharee Ann Tan-de los Santos said.
The 3D projection mapping shows videos of tourist destinations in Samar Island and scenes related to Christmas projected at the Capitol building.
Also, part of the Christmas activity is the “Samar Kids Can! Bazaar”, in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd). The event showcases products created by senior high school students from the two cities and 24 towns in the province.
The bazaar is an avenue for students to highlight their talents and skills, including teaching them to value entrepreneurship.
“I am amazed that we are able to showcase the talent of our students. This is a good venue for our learners to apply what they have learned inside the classrooms,” DepEd Samar Division Supt. Mariza Magan said.
Products displayed at the bazaar will include processed food, souvenir items made from indigenous materials, decors made from bamboo, toys made from rubber, and bags made from straw. The bazaar will end on December 11. (RTA/PNA)
