Chief Insp. Demosthenes Magnaan, City Mobile Force Company (CMFC)
commander and team leader identified the suspect as Glenn Esperas, 34.
He was charged with child abuse through lascivious conduct and was
issued an arrest warrant by Presiding Judge Lope Calio of the Davao City
Regional Trial Branch 33.
Esperas firmly denied having malicious intent to his 14-year old
step-daughter, who is also his cousin.
He, however, admitted dropping his legs to the child’s body during
bed time sometime in 2015, an act he described as a display of affection since
the child grew up with him.
The child is his wife’s daughter by his uncle, who had died.
The accusation brought him to rank number six on the most wanted
list of the Tarragona municipal station in Davao Oriental.
“Esperas is scheduled to be returned to the issuing court (Davao
City) as soon as paper works are completed,” Magnaan told reporters Monday
night.
The suspect plans to post PHP180,000 bail set by the court, adding
he also plans to seek for forgiveness from his estranged wife.
The arrest came after a police asset reported a wanted person from
Davao hiding in the village.
The CMFC then coordinated with the Tarragona town police, led by
Insp. Ariel Ismael, the women and children protection desk officers headed by
Senior Insp. Graciela Sabas and the City Intelligence Bureau. (ERR/PNA)
