Dubbed as “Oplan Clean Rider Waray” (the local dialect), the
campaign will issue sticker to motorcycle riders without criminal records and
with proof of vehicle’s legal ownership.
Police stations in the six provinces of Eastern Visayas will be
open for screening of riders starting September 15.
“The clean rider campaign aims to prevent crimes using impounded
and stolen motorcycles. After screening, riders will be issued with stickers.
It’s like a police clearance for riders,” said PNP Region 8 spokesperson Senior
Supt. Ma. Bella Rentuaya in a press briefing Friday.
From October 2017 to July 2018, there are at least 28 shooting
incidents in the region committed by motorcycle-riding assailants.
In the first seven months of 2018, 41 motorcycles were stolen and
only 27 have been recovered.
The clean rider sticker will help identify a motorcycle that has
been thoroughly checked, verified and registered with the police. It has
special features that cannot be forged, said Rentuaya.
The sticker will be given free to all legitimate motorcycle owners
after submission of pertinent documents as proof of ownership to the nearest
police stations such as application form; original receipt/certificate of
registration; deed of sale, certificate of registration of the vehicle if it is
not named after the owner, driver’s license and valid identification cards.
The campaign is part of the PNP’s focused and comprehensive
approach to eliminate crimes committed by riding in tandems, ensure the safety
and security of motorcycle riders and prevent criminal activities. (SQM/PNA)
