TACLOBAN CITY Jan. 1 -- The National Economic and
Development Authority (NEDA) regional office here urged media persons in
Eastern Visayas to help in the promotion of AmBisyon Natin 2040, which
represents the vision and aspirations of the Filipino people for themselves and
for the country in the next 25 years.
NEDA Regional
Director Bonifacio Uy said people should always be reminded of their own
aspirations and urged them to work with the government to achieve the long-term
vision of a better living condition.
“NEDA and the
Regional Development Council believe of the media’s power in advancing the
development efforts aligned with the vision of Filipinos in the next 25 years,”
Uy said in a recent year-end gathering of journalists here.
The official
emphasized the important role of their partnership with the media as marketing
arm in disseminating information and government policies.
“We understand the
significance of media in attaining progress by shaping public perception,
thereby, putting plans into concrete actions,” Uy said.
To help map out
communication plans, the NEDA regional office hired staff with communication backgrounds
and listed a broadcaster and officials from the Philippine Information Agency
as members of the region’s highest policy-making body.
AmBisyon Natin 2040
is the result of a long-term visioning process that began in 2015. More than
300 citizens participated in focus group discussions and close to 10,000
answered the national survey, according to NEDA.
Technical studies
were prepared to identify strategic options for realizing the vision
articulated by citizens.
The exercise
benefitted from the guidance of an Advisory Committee composed of the
government, private sector, academe, and civil society.
Under the vision, all
Filipinos by 2040 will enjoy a stable and comfortable lifestyle, secured in the
knowledge that each one has enough for their daily needs and unexpected
expenses, plan and prepare for their own and their children’s future.
The blueprint's goal
is for Filipino families to live together in a place of their own, and have the
freedom to go where they desire, protected and enabled by a clean, efficient,
and fair government. (SQM/PNA)
