ORMOC
CITY, Leyte, Sept. 19 --
Members of the City Public Safety Company (CPSC) nabbed on Monday afternoon the
city’s eighth most wanted person wanted for rape.
Supt.
Joel Camacho, CPSC chief said fugitive Jason Dapola, 25, an on-call
reflexologist, did not resist when he was arrested by the police upon arrival
to his aunt’s home in Lao village from Lauag, Quezon province where he went
hiding.
At the
police station detention cell, Dapola denied raping a girl living in the same
village who he said he only felt pity of.
“I am
wondering why I was charged when I only showed gratitude by escorting her
home,” suspect Dapola told reporters on Tuesday.
He
recalled, the incident on January 2014, led to the filing of charges against
him by the girl’s mother.
He
admitted leaving the city upon learning that his warrant of arrest was issued
but due to a relative’s encouragement, he decided to come home and face the
accusation.
The
arresting team headed by Insp. Bryan Erandio was armed with a warrant of arrest
issued by Presiding Judge Hon. Girlie M. Borrel-Yu of Regional Trial Court
(RTC) Branch 35, Ormoc City issued on December 2016 with no bail recommended
for the arrested suspect.
The city
police had launched on Monday a week-long one-time big-time operation, focusing
on to warranted persons of various offenses. Dapola’s arrest was the
second for the day, Camacho added.
Surveillance
is being conducted against other personalities with standing warrants. (ERR/PNA)
