CATBALOGAN CITY, May 31 -- Three centenarians from
this city on Wednesday received cash assistance from the national government
through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The three centenarians Renato Meala, 106 of Socorro
village; Fernanda Mabansag, 101, of Guindapunan village; and Jose Cabrales,
102, of the city center, all received PHP100,000 cash assistance, said City
assistant social welfare and development officer Annie Mustacisa.
The three centenarians also received a plague of
recognition from the local government. The money came from the DSWD budget and
contribution from the city government.
The grant for centenarians is a benefit stipulated
under Republic Act 10868 or the Centenarians Act of 2016 providing cash gifts
to a Filipino whether residing in the country or abroad and has reached 100
years old.
Mustacisa added that the city council of Catbalogan
is also pushing for the approval of an ordinance providing additional PHP25,000
cash incentives to the city’s centenarians.
“We are waiting if there are still families who
will submit the requirements so that their family member who is already 100
years old and above could receive financial assistance from the government,”
Mustacisa said.
Mustacisa lauded family members for taking good
care of the centenarians and helping them to live longer.(Roel T. Amazona/PNA)
