ORMOC CITY, Leyte, May 25 -- At least 43 persons
were charged at the City Prosecutor’s Office for an unlawful gathering at a
residential house in San Juan village here, the police said.
Sr. Insp. Jose Alcera of city police station 3 said
all 43 persons, including 10 female underwent inquest proceedings around late
Wednesday night for illegally having a meeting at the yard of Antonio Quinte’s
house morning on that day.
Alcera added, the police were alarmed by tipster
who observed some attendees of the said group wearing military uniform and one
armed with caliber 38 gun.
The roving police who were near the vicinity
immediately responded to the call and saw the group gathered at the patio of
their identified leader Quinte.
Quinte claimed they belong to General Office
Investigation (GOI) whose intention was to organize members for possible
assistance from the United Nations.
The police previously heard of the group’s presence
in the locality but could not give further comment while investigation is
ongoing.
Member Gregorio Astillero, 50, from Cambantog
village of Merida town in Leyte was allegedly wearing camouflage uniform of a
military and tucking in a cal. 38 pistol when arrested.
He faced additional charges of illegal possession
of firearm and ammunitions and illegal use of military uniform/insignia.
The police identified the youngest member Ryan
Diaz, 23, from Cambunggan village, Baybay City and the oldest, Clarita
Guillemer, 69, from nearby Margen village, this city.
Charged GOI members were residents from the cities
of Baybay and Ormoc and Kananga, Merida and Isabel towns.
The joint operation of city public safety company
and the local police resulted to the arrest of the suspects. (Elvie Roman
