TACLOBAN CITY, April 11 (PNA) - The Leyte
provincial peace and order council has approved an annual budget of PHP23
million to fund the campaign against illegal drugs in the area.
It will be implemented from 2017 to 2019 and aims
to ensure the peace and order condition in the province by eliminating the drug
menace down to the village level.
“It will focus on two approaches - the supply and
demand. In terms of supply, drug dealers will be relentlessly pursued. In terms
of demand, users will be encouraged to undergo training and rehabilitation,”
Vice Governor Carlo P. Loreto said on Tuesday.
The official also suggested making use of
technology such as face recognition and biometrics to prevent crimes.
Part of the PHP23 million will be used for
conducting operations against drug personalities and for the installation of
closed circuit television systems. (PNA)
