TACLOBAN CITY, March 3 (PNA) – Dwellers of northern
relocation sites in this city will be the top priority for summer jobs under
the Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES).
The city employment office had opened 170 slots for
applicants from 14 relocation sites in the northern part of the city.
“They are the first preference of the city
government since they badly need summer jobs to finance their education and
help their family after being displaced,” said Katherine Peliño, development
management officer of Tacloban Public Employment Service Office (PESO).
Qualified applicants are required to render a
20-day service in the city government with a daily wage of PHP430, up by PHP170
than last year.
“This is based on the new implementing rules and
regulations of the program that the salary should be the same as the lowest
salary entry level. Since Tacloban is a highly urbanized city, it is PHP430,”
Peliño explained.
Under the program, the Department of Labor and
Employment shoulders 40 percent of the SPES salary while the remaining 60
percent will be covered by the local government.
SPES is mandated under Republic Act No. 9547 to
“help poor but deserving 15-25 years old students pursue their education by
encouraging their employment during vacations.”(PNA) FPV/SQM/Gerico A. Sabalza
