CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar, March 13 (PNA) -- Samar's
provincial government will build a modern four-storey hospital in this city.
Chief of the Samar provincial hospital, Dr.
Maribeth Pedrigal, said that Samar Governor Sharee Tan delos Santos is bent on
improving health services for the province's poor by constructing another
hospital.
Samar has received a seed fund of PHP150 million
from the Department of Health (DOH) and construction will kick off in the next
three months.
The new hospital will be built near the present
hospital, which is close to the Samar provincial capitol building.
It will have 300 beds and will be equipped with
state-of-the art facilities. The hospital, estimated to cost nearly PHP500
million, will be financed by the local government.
For decades, sick people from Samar have been
seeking medical assistance at the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center
(EVRMC) and other private hospitals in Tacloban City.
“Even the need for quality and safe supply of blood
are sourced in Tacloban. The DOH released last week a PHP6 million fund for a
blood center at the provincial hospital,” Pedrigal said.
"Once the new hospital is constructed and
completed, we will apply for a Blood Bank that will supply the blood needs of
Samar.”
The construction of the new hospital building will
provide patients better services and more rooms and fulfill the present
administration's goal of giving Filipinos access to quality health care. (PNA)
