BFP Region 8 lines up Fire Prevention Month activities

TACLOBAN CITY, March 1 (PNA) – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) regional office here has lined-up various activities to observe the Fire Prevention Month in Eastern Visayas.

This year’s observance is anchored on the theme, “Buhay at Ari-arian ay Pahalagahan, Ibayong Pag-iingat sa Sunog ay sa Sariling Pamamahay Simulan.” The theme emphasizes the value of fire prevention in the household level to avert loss of lives and properties.

“We have lots of activities to prevent fire incidents that caused economic and emotional burden to many people in the region,” said Senior Fire Officer Dulcebeth Villaflor, BFP Eastern Visayas regional information officer .

On Wednesday, the BFP led the kick off activity with the participation of fire volunteers, government agencies, non-government organizations, local government units, professional groups, and students.

Highlighting the regional event was a motorcade around the city’s major thoroughfares to drumbeat the government’s fire prevention program.

There was a five-minute simultaneous blowing of horns of fire trucks on Wednesday morning.

Next week, the fire bureau will also sponsor a presentation of games and contests like poster making , drawing, and essay writing for all elementary and secondary levels.

Throughout the month, the BFP will also spearhead fire safety drills, monitor all hazard operations, identify all fire-prone areas, and conduct of fire lectures.

“Those activities were carefully planned in order to have a productive campaign for the whole month. But actually, this is not only being patronized or advocated for the month of March, we bring this program for the whole year,” she explained.

The BFP will be hanging posters and tarpaulins in establishments in the region to bring the awareness drive to crowded places.

The observance of Fire Prevention Month dates back to 1966, when then President Ferdinand Marcos signed Proclamation 115-A that assigned a particular aspect of safety and accident prevention to each month of the year. (PNA)
