TACLOBAN CITY, Feb. 13 (PNA) -- Some 44 policemen
in Eastern Visayas were dismissed from service in 2016, even before the
intensified internal cleansing drive of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
In a report released Monday by the PNP regional
office here, 31 police officers lost their jobs due to absence without leave.
The remaining 13 officers were sacked for accepting
bribes, illegal possession of firearms, direct assault of an authority,
maliciously refraining from instituting prosecution for the punishment of
violators, tolerance to the commission of offenses, adultery, and losing
government properties entrusted to him for official use.
Chief Insp. Bella Rentuaya, police regional office
spokesperson refused to divulge the names and ranks of the dismissed officers.
The PNP is now undergoing internal cleansing upon
the order of President Rodrigo Duterte.
