CALBAYOG CITY, Samar, Jan. 25 (PNA) – The city
government here is looking for individuals who are willing to pursue
agriculture studies.
City Mayor Ronaldo Aquino announced that the local
government, in partnership with Samar 1st district Rep. Edgar Mary Sarmiento,
will provide scholarship grants to 20 takers of farm-related courses.
The grant will cover free tuition, board and
lodging as well as allowances. The scholar can enroll in any agricultural
school in the region.
“The reason why we came up with this program is
that we already lack of people who are experts in agriculture or those who have
technical know-how in the said field,” Aquino said.
Scholars are assured of employment in the local
government after graduation as one of the conditions of the program.
“They will work with the LGU for five years. If
there is a job item available related to their course, they would be
prioritized for hiring,” he added.
Samar 1st district Rep. Edgar Mary Sarmiento said a
farming province like Samar needs experts in the said sector.
“We want students to really have the passion in
farming and believe that there is a good fortune in agriculture,” Sarmiento
said.
Sarmiento is also planning to extend support to an
agriculture graduate or a farmer who are experts on this field.
“The purpose of this program is that our candidates
or beneficiaries will act as farm managers, and they will look into the
quantity and quality of our production,” Sarmiento added.(PNA)
