TACLOBAN CITY, Jan. 6 (PNA) – Poverty alleviation
and nation-building movement Gawad Kalinga (GK) will build a housing project in
Allen, Northern Samar for 70 poor families.
New houses will rise in Sabang village in Allen
town after a groundbreaking ceremony and signing of a deal with the local
government unit on January 17.
Jed Dycoco, GK movement building team leader for
Eastern Visayas said the local government has donated 1.5 hectares of land for
the project.
“The site is good for more than 70 houses but
initially, the budget now is only for 20 houses. We will build more houses as
we receive more donations,” Dycoco said.
“We have a list from the local government and
Department of Social Welfare and Development of potential beneficiaries that
will be verified after the groundbreaking,” he added.
GK is a poverty alleviation and nation-building
movement based in the country. Its community building program provides GK
villages to the poorest of the poor.
This project is one of the interventions of GK to
end poverty for five million families by 2024.
As of last year, GK has already built houses for
150,000 poor Filipino families, including disaster victims. (PNA)
