MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, Jan. 13 (PNA) – The
Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) field office here reported a
97.73 percent accomplishment in the construction of 84 infrastructure projects
last year.
“As of end 2016, we topped in the physical
accomplishment of 2016 infrastructure program among 13 DPWH district offices in
Eastern Visayas,” said District Engineer Ma. Margarita C. Junia.
The field office also exceeded the 85 percent
annual accomplishment target set by the central office.
It completed 80 projects before the end of 2016,
resulting to improvement of 22.20 kilometers of national highways and
strengthening of 41 bridges.
The infrastructure agency also built two new school
buildings, 10 multi-purpose buildings, and seven flood control structures in
Southern Leyte province.
“The accomplishment last year is very remarkable.
This is a product of careful planning, early preparation, proper coordination,
and regular inspection,” Junia said.
Under the 2016 National Expenditure Program, DPWH
Southern Leyte was allotted a budget of PHP1 billion for infrastructure
projects.
There are still four ongoing projects namely, the
construction of Liloan-San Ricardo Road, the construction of Liloan-San Ricardo
Circumferential Road, the repair of primary highway connecting Maasin City and
Sogod town, and the improvement of saddle road in Pintuyan town.
“Our ongoing projects are major ones. These
encountered problems due to heavy rains and right of way acquisition such as
cutting permit for trees and removal of electric posts,” said District Engineer
Ma. Margarita C. Junia.
The target is to complete all 2016 projects before
the end of February 2017.
The DPWH Southern Leyte office is tasked to
maintain 299 kilometers of national roads and 155 bridges, built in 18 towns
and one city.
For 2017, the district was allotted a budget of
PHP1.74 billion for regular infrastructure projects under the National
Expenditure Program.(PNA)
