“As of end 2016, we topped in the physical accomplishment of 2016 infrastructure program among 13 DPWH district offices in Eastern Visayas,” said District Engineer Ma. Margarita C. Junia.

The field office also exceeded the 85 percent annual accomplishment target set by the central office.

It completed 80 projects before the end of 2016, resulting to improvement of 22.20 kilometers of national highways and strengthening of 41 bridges.

“The accomplishment last year is very remarkable. This is a product of careful planning, early preparation, proper coordination, and regular inspection,” Junia said.

Under the 2016 National Expenditure Program, DPWH Southern Leyte was allotted a budget of PHP1 billion for infrastructure projects.

There are still four ongoing projects namely, the construction of Liloan-San Ricardo Road, the construction of Liloan-San Ricardo Circumferential Road, the repair of primary highway connecting Maasin City and Sogod town, and the improvement of saddle road in Pintuyan town.

“Our ongoing projects are major ones. These encountered problems due to heavy rains and right of way acquisition such as cutting permit for trees and removal of electric posts,” said District Engineer Ma. Margarita C. Junia.

The target is to complete all 2016 projects before the end of February 2017.
