TACLOBAN
CITY, Dec. 16 (PNA) -- The city government here thanked the Department
of Interior and Local Government (DILG) for stepping up recovery efforts
in this typhoon-hit city under the new administration.
Mayor
Cristina Romualdez on Friday said the city government is lucky to be a
recipient of various projects funded by the DILG after the devastation
of super typhoon Yolanda.
These projects are Reconstruction
Assistance on Yolanda (RAY) funded projects such as city hall
rehabilitation, court office, and repair of village facilities.
“DILG
has lived up to its mandate to promote public safety and strengthen
local government capability toward effective delivery of basic services
to the citizenry,” Romualdez said.
The mayor issued the statement
after DILG Secretary Ismael Sueno visited the city on Thursday to lead
the inauguration of the Tacloban City Court office building.
The
city trial court located at the city hall grounds has two rooms at the
first floor. The upper floor is the office of the City Civil Registrar.
Sueno lauded the resiliency of Tacloban residents who were able to recover immediately right after the typhoon.
The
DILG chief also went to the Leyte provincial capitol to unveil the Seal
of Good Local Governance (SGLG) marker for the province.
Leyte
Governor Leopoldo Dominico Petilla described the award as a product of
collaborative efforts of all employees of the provincial government.
As
recipient of the SGLG award, the province of Leyte will receive
Performance Challenge Fund, an incentive meant for local government
units implementing projects intended to address basic needs of
residents.
Also
during his visit, Sueno sworn in Samar Governor Sharee Ann Tan-de los
Santos as the new chairperson of the Regional Peace and Order Council
replacing Calbayog City Mayor Ronald Aquino. (PNA)
