TACLOBAN
CITY, Dec. 22 (PNA) -- The Leyte II Electric Cooperative (Leyeco 2) has
completed on Wednesday the energization of power lines leading to
completed permanent houses meant for victims of supertyphoon Yolanda in
this city.
Fernan Paul Tan, Leyeco 2 general manager said they
heeded orders of President Rodrigo Duterte to supply power to all houses
before Christmas.
“Leyeco 2 being a resilient cooperative, we’re
able to do our job and with the help of other electric cooperatives.
We’re augmented with 70 linemen from other areas. In two weeks, we’re
able to supply power to all primary and secondary lines,” Tan said.
However,
it will take more time to install individual lines per house since it
should be done with caution to ensure safety, according to Tan.
Tan
reported that each housing unit got an electric meter. “The process is
disadvantageous to the cooperative since we are not even aware who would
be the occupants for each house. We just performed our duty and became
pro-active.”
Leyeco has been spending PHP3,000 to bring power to
each unit. The target is more than 11,000 houses built by the National
Housing Authority. The power cooperative hopes to recover the cost
through monthly bills on a staggered basis.
Recently,
the electric cooperative and Leyte Metropolitan Water District,
Department of Social Welfare and Development, and the Armed Forces of
the Philippines were recognized by the Office of the President for
addressing bottlenecks in resettlement of families in this city. (PNA)
