TACLOBAN CITY, Nov. 17 (PNA) – The Department of
Trade and Industry (DTI) has opened its three-day Diskwento (discount) caravan
in this city, offering Christmas products at cheaper prices.
The DTI, in partnership with the city government
here launched the caravan Wednesday afternoon at the City Engineering Office
covered court. The selling event is rolled out until Friday.
Distributors sell noche buena products, Christmas
lights and decorations, toys and other gift items, basic goods and commodities,
locally processed food and electrical items.
“The activity aims to give consumers the best value
for their money by providing them quality products at cheaper prices,” DTI
Leyte consumer welfare division chief Araceli Larraga.
Local distributors and entrepreneurs participating
in the sale include Fast Distribution Corp., Dranix Distribution, River Valley
Distribution, R8 Distribution Line, CM Distribution, The Bee Trading, CCT
Ventures, RAM Food Products, Virginia Foods, Gardenia Bakeries, Phils., 578
Resources, UnitopTacloban.
Other participants are United Producers of Tacloban
and Leyte Treats and Ethnic Foods and Crafts Association.
They are selling Noche Buena products, Christmas
lights and decorations, toys and other gift items, basic goods and commodities,
locally processed food and electrical items to consumers at premium offers or
discounted prices.
The city government also provided free services
such as haircut and massage.
A consumer welfare desk was also set up to provide
information materials and raise awareness on the rights and responsibilities of
the consumer.
The caravan was launched in 2010, which is being
done three times a year - June for Balik Eskwela edition, October for
Consumer’s Welfare Month, and November for Noche Buena edition.
This is a project of the DTI that brings together
local distributors, entrepreneurs,micro small and medium enterprises to sell
their products at a discounted price. (PNA)
