TACLOBAN
CITY, Oct. 21 (PNA) -- Members of the city council and their staff have
completed the disaster preparedness and risk reduction training in the bid to prepare
themselves for destructive impacts of natural calamities.
Vice Mayor
Jerry Yaokasin said that establishing the proper workplace security and
planning for disasters is a vital component in minimizing impacts of disasters.
“We’re
talking about floods, earthquakes and typhoons. It’s a fact that Mother Nature
sometimes strikes like super typhoon Yolanda and we’ve learned a lot from it,”
Yaokasin told PNA.
“The weather
is out of our control, but what we can do and must do is to take steps to
minimize these sorts of risks by undergoing a life support emergency
trainings,” he said.
The official
said that a prompt evacuation warning to employees, shelter or lockdown can
save lives. Employees trained to administer first aid can be lifesaving, he
added.
The
training, which include basic life support system, has covered all city council
employees. Rescue teams of the Tacloban Rescue Unit led the training that
concluded last week. (PNA)
