TACLOBAN
CITY, Oct. 12 (PNA) –- In line with the Cooperative Month celebration this
October, PH Haiyan Advocacy Cooperative and Climate Change Commission (CCC)
will hold the first Regional Cooperative Conference on climate change
adaptation and mitigation on Oct. 13 to 14, 2016.
The two-day
event will be held at the Leyte Academic Center in Palo, Leyte in partnership
with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) and the Department of
Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) with support from the electric
cooperatives of Eastern Visayas.
The program
will focus on providing a better understanding of the continuing changes to the
environment caused by climate change.
It will also
tackle the various methods and programs that each local government units and
organizations undertake to enable communities to adapt to the environs and way
of life.
Key
officials are invited as resource speakers such as Climate Change Commission
Secretary Emmanuel de Guzman; Senator Cynthia Villar, Senate committee
chairperson on environment and natural Resources, DENR Secretary Gina Lopez and
Senator Loren Legarda, Senate committee chairperson on climate change.
Palo, Leyte
Mayor Remedios Petilla will give the welcome remarks and Leyte Governor
Leopoldo Dominico Petilla will give the opening address.
Catbalogan
City Mayor Stephanie Uy-Tan will discuss on best practices and learning of a
local government unit; Eulita Casas, chairman of the PH Haiyan Advocacy
Cooperative will talk about the local civil society initiative PH Haiyan
program of Yolanda survivors in Tacloban City with Tacloban City Mayor Cristina
G. Romualdez giving the response.
The two-day
event will be attended by cooperatives, local government units, academe, media
