CITY, Oct. 11 (PNA) - A Grade 5 learner from Baybay City represented Eastern
Visayas region in the national on-the-spot poster making contest depicting
impacts of climate change to farming.
Dhaniel
Gonzaga, a student of Baybay I Central Elementary School awed the judges after
presenting his artistic talent.
Gonzaga was
the top pick for the national competition held on Monday at the Department of
Agriculture (DA) central office in Quezon City.
Awarding of
national winners is scheduled on Oct. 14 at Liwasang Aurora in Quezon City
Circle, Diliman, Quezon City.
The regional
office here held its on-the-spot poster making contest on Oct. 7, searching for
the best artist from different elementary schools.
Contestants
conveyed the theme “Climate is changing. Food and agriculture must too” in
their poster in line to the celebration of 2016 World Food Day.
Gonzaga’s
work depicts a farmer, representing the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)
in an advocacy to stop food wastage and curb hunger. He also painted a symbol
emphasizing the value of recycling.
Marvin
Alidro, coach of Dhaniel admitted that special program for the arts offered in
their school helped them win the contest. SPA is usually offered in secondary
education, but due to the talents of the students, the Baybay campus became the
pioneer school offering SPA to Grade 5.
“Dhaniel’s
work is a complete package of creativity, originality and most of all relevance
to the theme.
Unlike the other contestants, his work is well-detailed,” said
Rolando Lepon, an artist who witnessed the contest.
Judges
picked Gonzaga’s piece as the winner, besting other 11 contestants.
Kris Claire
Hilaria also from Baybay Carez Ylar from Calbayog City in Samar were the second
and third placers, respectively.(PNA)
