CARIGARA, Leyte, Oct. 11 (PNA) -- The bidding of PHP57.35 million worth of infrastructure projects are now being undertaken by the second Leyte engineering district of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

District Engineer Carlos Veloso said these are the remaining allocated projects for 2016 and is targeted to be finished within the year.

Invitation for bidders was posted in September for the construction of one unit 4-storey sixteen classroom school building at the Granja-Kalinawan High School, another 3-storey twelve classroom school building at the Macarthur National High School, upgrading and expansion of LGU healthcare facilities and other health sector partners in Buri and San Esteban in Burauen and in Burakan, Lapaz town.

Pre-bid conference for these projects was conducted on September 30, while opening of bids is scheduled on Oct. 11.

The district office is looking at issuing the notice of award soon after.

Infrastructure development is top priority of DPWH with its PHP1.2 billion budget allocation this year.

Veloso said the funds will be used for the construction of bridges, maintenance and rehabilitation of major highways and completion of primary projects in Leyte’s second district.

Under the budget, the DPWH field office undertook a total of 59 projects amounting to PHP450 million. The rest of the projects with a total allocation of PHP700 million was through the DPWH regional office.

As the government’s lead construction agency, the DPWH’s budget allocation is the second biggest among government departments.

In 2016, the DPWH plans to complete the paving of all national arterial and secondary roads, as well as the continuing development of the national road network—including tertiary roads—and the preservation of road assets. (PNA)
