DOST slates exam for junior science scholarship

TACLOBAN CITY, Oct. 10 (PNA) –- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) regional office here, together with the Science Education Institute (SEI) has announced the schedule and the different venues across the region for the Junior Level Science Scholarship (JLSS) examination for the third year college students.

DOST Eastern Visayas Regional Director Edgardo Esperancilla said the scheduled examination will be on Oct. 16, 2016 in five provinces.

The examination will be held in these venues: multi-purpose building of the University of the 
Philippines (UP) Tacloban City campus; multi-purpose hall, Ormoc City hall; Northwest Samar State 
University, Calbayog City; Eastern Samar State University, Borongan City, Eastern Samar; Farmers 
Training Center, University of Eastern Philippines, Catarman, Northern Samar; new student center, 
Southern Leyte State University, Sogod, Southern Leyte.

The JLSS program is intended to produce leadership roles in science and technology as well as research and development activities.

According to DOST, test permits will be mailed to the applicants. If permit is not received a week before the exam date, a follow-up is needed in the agency’s regional office at Candahug, Palo, Leyte.

For the merit applicants, a PHP200 fee will be collected either cash, postal money orders, cashier’s or manager’s checks with SEI as payee. Personal checks are not acceptable.

“JLSS is open to qualified incoming third year students for academic year 2016 to 2017 enrolled in DOST-SEI priority science and technology priority courses and approved tertiary institutions,” Esperancilla said.

Upon graduation they are obliged to render service in the country. Equivalent to the period they availed themselves of the scholarship grants. (PNA)
