STA. FE,
Leyte, Sept. 16 (PNA) - A police officer formerly involved in anti-illegal
drugs operation was gunned down in this town Friday morning.
A group of
armed men ambushed Chief Insp. Jesus Son, killing him on the spot along the
highway of Pilit village here. Son was driving his car heading home to nearby
Pastrana town.
“The attack
was well planned with many assailants involved. They blocked the highway and
surrounded the car of the victim,” Insp. Shenna Layog, the town’s chief of
police told reporters.
The gunmen
used a car and motorcycle as they left the crime scene, according to witnesses.
Son used to
be an intelligence operative of the Philippine National Police 8th Regional
Command and had been assigned to the Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operation Task
Force.
He is
currently assigned at the police regional office.
The incident
happened three days after Philippine National Police chief Director General
Ronald Dela Rosa visited the police regional office in nearby Palo town and
ordered cops to step anti-drugs war to beat the six-month deadline.
The local
police BONIFACIO/EGR launched a manhunt operation against the suspects. (PNA)
