Cops to file raps vs 'protectors' of Leyte 'narco' mayor's son

TACLOBAN CITY, Sept. 12 (PNA) -– The Philippine National Police (PNP) is preparing to file cases against government officials and private individuals who received money from illegal drugs trade as divulged by embattled Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa, Sr.

PNP Regional Director Chief Supt. Elmer Beltejar said investigation is on for several high-ranking police officials, military, members of the judiciary, congressmen, local government officials, media practitioners and civilians who allegedly protected the drug trade of the mayor’s son Kerwin.

The police official refused to name anyone on the list prepared by the mayor.

“Such behavior will not be tolerated and we’ll take every possible measures to ensure that they will face appropriate charges in court,” he added.

Beltejar said that lawyers and police investigators are building cases against those listed in Espinosa’s affidavits, using and collating all vital information given by the mayor’s body guards, who voluntarily surrendered to the police.

For fear of his life, Espinosa sought protective custody and has been holding office inside the police station. (PNA)
