CARIGARA,
Leyte, Aug. 10 (PNA) -- A mayor in Leyte said government officials named by
President Rodrigo R. Duterte as involved in illegal drugs have “nothing to be
afraid of” for as long as “they did nothing wrong.”
Carigara
town Mayor Eduardo Ong said the surveillance made by the government does not
threaten privacy unless they uncover illegal activities.
“If they do
uncover illegal activities, the person committing illegal activities does not
have the right to keep them private,” he added. “If you have done nothing
wrong, you’ve got nothing to fear, but if you have made a mistake, admit it.”
The Carigara
local government is intensifying its campaign against illegal drugs.
“We will pay
extra attention to drug suspects who have had arrest warrants issued against
them,” the mayor said.
The local
police has listed at least 350 self-confessed drug pushers and users.
The local
police is also closely monitoring the town’s videoke bars to look for minor
drug users and implement curfew hours to minors.
“The
situation is very good now though we must maintain a high level of awareness in
the crackdown on drugs,” Ong said. (PNA)
