ORMOC CITY,
Leyte, Aug. 11 (PNA) -- Local police in Albuera, Leyte vowed to search for more
firearms and illegal drugs allegedly under control of the family of Mayor
Rolando Espinosa, Sr. in a bid to bring back peace and order in the town.
“If ever
there is information that other houses of the Espinosas contain illegal items,
we will apply search warrant,” said Chief Insp. Jovie Espenido, the local
police chief.
The police
will continue their battle against the proliferation of illegal drugs in the
locality relative to the thrust of President Rodrigo Duterte to put an end to
illegal drugs trade in the country.
In barely a
month, the local police under Espenido’s watch has confiscated a total of 20
short firearms and 22 long and high powered guns, taken from the possession of
“narco” mayor Espinosa and notorious drug lord son, Kerwin.
So far, nine
vehicles have been voluntarily turned over to the police since this Sunday,
including two jet boats and a single motorcycle owned by the Espinosas.
The
Anti-Money Laundering Act has been applied against the new mayor to temporarily
put a freeze on their property while investigation is ongoing, according to
Espenido.
On
Wednesday, equipped with a search warrant, a joint operation of local,
provincial and regional police offices confiscated a huge volume of suspected
shabu inside the house of the mayor.
The raid
yielded about 11 kilograms of suspected illegal drugs with an estimated street
value of PHP88 million inside the house of the neophyte mayor in Benolho
village, Albuera, Leyte. These were found at the kitchen, under the sink,
according to Espenido.
Also
recovered were a dozen of camouflage uniform for Regional Public Safety
Battalion (RPSB) and bomb components.
With these
developments, Espenido who is a Seventh Day Adventist by religion, believes
everything happens through the guidance of God Almighty.
“Praise the
Lord for leading us to all these accomplishments,” he noted. (PNA)
