Major infra projects up for completion in Leyte

CARIGARA, Leyte, July 1 (PNA) -– The Second Leyte Engineering District (2nd LED) of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) based here reports that three of its major projects started in 2015 now near completion and is right on target.

The construction of the Civic Center in Tabontabon town, was funded under the DILG’s Rehabilitation After Yolanda (RAY) Batch 2 fund worth PHP30 million.

The project started on December 14, 2015 and target to be completed by August 24, 2016. It is now 68 percent complete
.
Meanwhile, the repair and improvement of a slope protection along the Palo-Carigara-Ormoc Road was completed on May 26, 2016. The project which costs PHP9.27 million was undertaken by Kauie Builders and construction supply.

The Mainit Bridge along the Jaro-Dagami-Burauen-Lapaz road is now reported to be 85 percent complete. Project cost was pegged at PHP14.49 million and was funded under the disaster related and emergency rehabilitation fund in 2015.

Mainit Bridge was among the number of bridges that was destroyed during the onslaught of Typhoon Senyang in December 2014. The project is targeted to be completed this July.

This as among the priority project by the 2nd LED for 2016 is the repair and rehabilitation of 18 bridges. Most of bridge within the area are either old or have been damaged by heavy rains and water flow during the past typhoons

2nd LED District Engineer Carlos Veloso said this year funds of the district engineering officer will be used for the construction of bridges, maintenance and rehabilitation of major highways and completion of primary projects.

Veloso said they have set to maintain if not exceed their project accomplishment rate in 2015. He remains optimistic they can attain the same or exceed their 95 percent rating for the same accomplishment rate this 2016. (PNA)
