Leyte provincial board to revive out-of-town sessions

TACLOBAN CITY, July 19 (PNA) – The Leyte provincial board will soon resume the “Sesyon sa Bayan”, an innovation to help communities familiarize the job of local legislation.

Sesyon sa Bayan was first implemented during the term of then Vice Governor Mimiette Bagulaya and continued during the first term of Vice Governor Carlo Loreto.

It was temporary stopped after super typhoon Yolanda destructed the city in November 2013 as the provincial government and members of the board focused their efforts on rehabilitation.

Sesyon sa Bayan is an activity of the provincial board conducted once a month, wh
ere they visit a locality to conducts sessions and talk with people on what their problems are.

“We are talking about it in the provincial board, however, the budget of the Sanggunian is still the same budget that we use to operate in 2004. That is why we have talked that each member of the board will need to contribute, using our personal money to conduct Sesyon sa Bayan,” Loreto said.

“For board members to visit towns in the province is a good experience for them to really see the people’s condition and not basing information from stories and information relayed to them. You can feel what they feel and see what they see in their towns while the people on their part will know that government exists and ready to listen to their voice,” he added. (PNA)
