Leyte provincial board assigns committee leadership

TACLOBAN CITY, July 6 (PNA) – The Leyte provincial board has picked new chairpersons for various standing committees of the legislative body that will function in the next three years.

Appointment of new chairmanship to provincial board members came after their inaugural session on Tuesday at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan building.

The committee on rules, laws and privileges will still be chaired by Florante Cayunda, Jr. (5th district). The majority floor leader is also the chairperson of the committee on human rights and education.

Emmanuelle Gacis (5th district) retained the chairmanship on committee on agriculture and committee on boundary dispute.

Mesias Arevalo (4th district), the second deputy floor leader, is assigned to lead the committees on environment, budget and management and cooperatives.

Neophyte Manuel Vicente Torres (4th district) is seen as fit to chair the committees on youth and banking and finance.

The provincial board agreed to assign to leadership of committee on infrastructure, ways and means and newly-created committee on housing to Alan Ang (3rd district).

First-termer Maria Corazon Remandaban (3rd district) will take charge of the committee on tourism and heritage.

Niccolo Villasin (2nd district), the first deputy floor leader is assigned to four committees - finance, trade, energy and labor and employment.

First-termer board members, but veteran politician Trinidad Apostol (2nd district) is the chairperson of the committees on women and senior citizen. Apostol served as vice-governor, congresswoman and mayor.

The committee on health goes to Rabulfo Abellanosa (1st district). The official retained his chairmanship of committee on public information. His colleague from the 1st district Gina Merillois the chair of committee on social services.

Nolie Caña, president of the Association of Barangay (village) Chairman is assigned to the committee on village affairs.

Philippine Councilors League Leyte Chapter President Wilson Uy leads the committee on jail management and appointments. He also retained his chairmanship of committee on public utilities.

Vice-Governor Carlo Loreto, the presiding officer of the provincial board is the chair the committees on public order, information and communication technology, disaster and blue ribbon.

The Leyte provincial board with 12 members is composed of eight senior legislators and four neophytes. (PNA)
